Who are these people?

Post by John Upham » Wed Oct 14, 2026 6:31 pm

Who are the older two persons at the rear of this photograph?

At the front we have

SD Brown, RF Holmes, RA Cannon and AJ King.

Who are the other two?

This is not a quiz!

This is a guess, might they be not chessers exactly but IT boffins? I therefore wildly offer Eric Hallsworth. Actually I have no idea but surely one of the others pictured can help John.

John Cox has suggested (in another place) that the bearded person is Colin Crouch.

This looks most plausible unless you know better.

I think Bryan Threadgall is the bearded person.

I showed this photograph to a friend of mine who knew Colin Crouch well when the latter was studying for his PhD at Durham University, aged 21 to 24. His comment doesn't help much, but he said: "I don't recognise the persons on the back row, but would allow that one of them might be the younger Colin."
