Droidfish and alternatives

Post by JustinHorton » Wed Nov 04, 2026 2:22 pm

My phone (Samsung, Android) suddenly stopped working last week and though I now have it back, the process lost me quite a lot of material I had on the phone and a fair number of apps had to be installed anew, one of these being Droidfish.

I like Droidfish, it seems to me to be user-friendly and uncomplicated. However to my surprise it proved hard to get my phone to install it, apparently because it is relatively old, and I had to do two or three overrrides in order to persuade the phone to accept it.

I mention this because I intend to get a new phone at some point in the New Year and I may have to do all this over again, and if that's the case I might prefer an alternative to Droidfish that's not quite so much trouble to install, if there's something else that's as little trouble to use. Do forum readers have any suggestions? Please assume no technical knowledge on may part.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I think the Lichess App is the most straightforward. Aside from it's other many features, the engine is more than strong enough for analysis (3500 elo)
