It's about as great as it can be. If anything it's a bit too sunny, a bit too warm and the University accommodation a bit too good!! And I thought students had it hard! PS: The chess is fantastic!

I hear that numbers were up above 850 this morning and set to go higher as more late forms flood in. If you're intending to pop down for the weekend get those enteries in soon. Why would anyone not want to be here? Don't you just love chess?

My one complaint: The shower in the accommodation has a nylon shower curtain. So, whenever you turn the shower on, the curtain is drawn to the water because of the static charge. This makes showering awkward...

I was very impressed with how quickly the round 1 games went up, but I cannot get the games from round two yet. Is it just me?

You could say Mickey has had a tough draw up to now with an FM and a GM. However, I think today will be a real test. I don't expect Richard to make many mistakes and Mickey will have to play really well to win.

I really don't like Jack Rudd's position (after 14 ... a6). His kingside looks impossible to defend as all his pieces are on the wrong side of an impenetrable curtain of pawns!

The position after ...a6 is absolutely main line theory for this variation. Korchnoi has played this sort of stuff for White for many years and done very well with it.

Fair enough. I'll be interested to see how White is going to defend the kingside attack that Black seems to have started. It looks like Black is just going to play Qh5 and mate on the h-file. I'll try to find some examples from Korchnoi games on chessgames.com.

Yeah, I'm not sure if Korchnoi ever faced 14...a6 but I know he did face the older main line 14...Ng6 a lot with similar type of play
