Just once, in my experence, did a lower graded player (P Morrey I think) get to be the lone leader with 3/3 - in the 1971 Islington Open. His eventual excellent score was 4/6.

I should defer to Stewart on this one. However, there was an Islington, sometime in the early '70s, in which Dave Patrick upset many of his betters (sic). I believe it was Kurajica who restored the natural (sic) order. Islington was a very strong club in those days, and Dave was a member. I haven't seen him in decades.

A certain David Patrick appeared out of nowhere last season to score 4.5/5 (a 2604 rating) in the Scottish National Chess League, mashing up IM Andy Muir and FM Phil Giulian in the process. Sounds like it could be the same person?!

Adams - Rudd would be a nice line up.

Adams seems to be doing his usual snake charmer act: spend absolutely ages on fairly ordinary moves, then outplay his lower rated opponent when he has too little time to think properly. Can't see Jack falling for that one.

Jack could have turned Simon's lights out with 35. Ng5 (not 35. Bd3). The hit on h7 is instant; and if 35...h6 (say), then 36. Bxd8 and 37. Nf7+

As it is, @45 it's resignable for Black (cus my little helper says it's +6.10)

Leaving aside the good bits about Jack turning over another GM, and the bad bits about a nice guy like Simon losing, I can't say I thought much of that game, at least from Simon's point of view. It seemed pretty superficial, the sac that is; more skittles than championship material. There are people better-placed to comment of course, and I'd be interested in their opinion.
