Latest Chess - August 2010

Post by Geoff Chandler » Sat Aug 14, 2010 8:05 pm

Looks like a minor victory for the Forum.

The diagrams have been tempered down and
are now warmer and easier on the eye.

Still think nothing wrong with standard b/w diagrams
and non-gloss paper to keep cost down.

Picture on cover has Carlsen looking even
more like Susan Boyle than she does. :)

Content looks normal, though I have read very little as
Edinburgh is in mid festival and living in the shadow of
Edinburgh Castle I'm right in the middle of it.

Been to see quite a few 'comedians'.
Think at last I now understand the concept of alternative comedy.
The alternative is they are not funny.

It was interesting for me to note from the offices in Baker Street that the letters they received from chess players and readers about the magazine were roughly 10-1 in favour of the new look.

Black and white diagrams and non gloss paper looks amateur and cheap and will not appeal to new readers.

Many of my friends are performing in Edinburgh. And "alternative" comedy was thirty years ago. Now we just call it "comedy" :)
