Hi all,
Does anyone know the results from this weekend's event? Are they available on the web anywhere?

Re: Terafinal/Challengers 2010
Vaguely.
1st Felix Ynojosa 15/18
2nd= James Adair, Martin Brown and someone else whose name escapes me (15/18, lost to Felix on sum of progressives)
5th had another tie, one of the tied people was Yang-Fan Zhou.
Top Girl was Lateefah Messam-Sparks.
They'll be at http://www.ukchesschallenge.com at some point...

Re: Terafinal/Challengers 2010
The crosstable created by Tournament Director has used the usual 1 point for a win, 1/2 for a draw and 0 for a loss rather than the 3/1/0 which was used in the Terafinal tournaments. Does anyone know if Tournament Director can cope with the 3/1/0 scoring system as I was thinking of switching to it from SwissPerfect, which is what I currently use.

Congratulations to Felix Ynojosa who won the first prize of £2000 on tie-break from James Adair, Martin Brown and Samuel Milson. All four scored 15/18 (3 points for a win). Lateefah Messam-Sparks won the girls prize and £1000 with 12/18 ahead of Anna Wang and Amy Milson who scored 11. David Redman scooped the U11 prize and Zheming Zhang won the U9 prize. It's noticeable (to me) how few of the top players actually played each other.

It doesn't.Jon D'Souza-Eva wrote:The crosstable created by Tournament Director has used the usual 1 point for a win, 1/2 for a draw and 0 for a loss rather than the 3/1/0 which was used in the Terafinal tournaments. There were nearly 60 players, so in 6 rounds there weren't enough rounds for them to play each other properly.Sean Hewitt wrote:It's noticeable (to me) how few of the top players actually played each other.
Don't forget that Felix, the eventual champion, only got into the Terafinal on a coin toss...

I don't think it'll last. At prize giving, Mike Basman explained that the sponsorship of British Land after 2011 is not guaranteed.Richard Bates wrote:£2000!!! 4 times as much as i've ever won
Now you see why this is more popular than the British Junior Championships though. More prize money, no accommodation for five nights...

Very quick off the mark - but is it just me, or are the Challengers sections missing?Alex Holowczak wrote:http://www.ukchesschallenge.com/TFResults10.shtml

The Challengers sections are missing. So is the "Relax" tournament, where I finished 3rd=.Brent Smith wrote:Very quick off the mark - but is it just me, or are the Challengers sections missing?Alex Holowczak wrote:http://www.ukchesschallenge.com/TFResults10.shtml

I guess most people are interested in seeing the Terafinal proper results, so it makes sense to post those as soon as possible. Also, isn't the Challengers a much bigger tournament (since more than twice as many children qualify - anyone who finished 2nd or 3rd, including equal places).

Re: Terafinal/Challengers 2010
Yes - there are two sections: imaginatively called Challengers A and Challengers B, each roughly as big as the TeraFinal itself. It was just that the UKCC home page link says "TeraFinal/Challengers", and I've now noticed that last year's results also seem to only show the main event.Jon D'Souza-Eva wrote:I guess most people are interested in seeing the Terafinal proper results, so it makes sense to post those as soon as possible. As an obsessively completist website results recorder, I'm after all the results I can get, although just the main results look pretty good for Berkshire: the overall winner, another equal first, top girl, and a total of 4 in the top 10 (if we lay claim to Akash Jain). The ECF U18 team title was no flash in the pan.
Maybe I should just leave our results as they are.

Re: Terafinal/Challengers 2010
In fairness, most of the Berkshire players in that list didn't play for that team. (And they still won!)Brent Smith wrote:The ECF U18 team title was no flash in the pan.
Also, Felix is headed back to Venezuela, so he may not make it a hat-trick next year. If he has to play in trials, he may not play for England either. So he has the option of switching his registration to Venezuela. All of this is bad for English chess.
Also, Lateefah used to play in the Northern Gigafinal, so I don't think you can claim her as Berkshire's own!
