e2e4 Runcorn Congress : 24-26 September

Post by Sean Hewitt » Sat Sep 04, 2010 1:43 pm

The Runcorn Congress will take place over the weekend of Friday 10th September Sunday 12th September 2010.

Following the success of the last May's Warrington congress we are again visiting the North West of England. For the first time we are holding the event at a Holiday Inn Hotel, WOOD LANE, BEECHWOOD, RUNCORN WA7 3HA. It is located next to the M56 motorway (junction 12), and just 3 miles from the nearest railway station so easy to get to. Those who have played in e2e4 events will know how good our playing conditions are. Therefore, you will know how special this venue is when I say it is the best venue we have ever used!

We have three sections which cater for all standards of player. The Open is FIDE rated (and ECF graded), whilst the Major (U155) and the Minor (U125) will be ECF graded.

The Open is a British Championship Qualifier, whilst all sections will be part of the e2e4 grand prix - details of which will be published later this week.

Entry fees are competitively priced and, with a healthy prize fund on offer and discounted accommodation for chess players of just £40 B&B per night for a 2 night stay in a single room there should be something for all players.

To book a room email [email protected].

The Runcorn Congress starts this evening.

The draw for colours in each section will be determined by this afternoon's world open snooker matches

Stephen Hendry (Sco) v Ronnie O'Sullivan (Eng)
Alan McManus (Sco) v Stephen Maguire (Sco)

If Hendry or McManus win then the top seed will be white in round 1.
However, if O'Sullivan and McGuire win then the top seed will be black in round 1.

In that case, the second match would always be irrelevant, because you can't get a draw... Ah well.

Bob Clark wrote:No - Hendry has lost so now all depends on the second game.

Maguire wins - top seed gets black.
McManus wins - top seed gets white.
Oh, I see! It's my lack of ability to read, and/or etc.

The Maths is fine! It's reading the question that would appear to be the problem.

I take it this means Lawson qualifies for the British? Congratulations to him.
