GM Needed for Summer Simul - Idle Chess Club
Idle Chess Club (Bradford, West Yorkshire) would like to organise a Grand Master simul match this summer, to be held at the world famous Idle Working Mens Club!
We have done this for the last 2 years and it has proven to be a very popular event.
In 2009 we played Keith Arkell and in 2010 we took on Stephen Gordon, who will be next?
We would like to hear from any GMs who would be interested in playing a simul at our club this summer. Preferably on a Tuesday evening, though a weekend date would be considered if it were able to be tied in with another event such as a rapidplay event or a coaching session?
If you would like to confidentially discuss this with me then please contact me at [email protected] or message me on this forum.
We are flexible in terms of dates. Fees and terms are to be discussed on an individual basis in the strictest of confidence.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Andy Wainwright

I am a mere IM, but I'd be interested if it could be tied in with this year's British in Sheffield.

Hi Jack
Thanks for the response.
After playing you in the last round at the 4NCL Rapidplay last October (and getting my arse kicked!) I know that you would put on a good show.
Preferably we do want to have a GM but I will definitely be back in touch if no one comes forward.
If you are playing both weeks of the British in Sheffield then perhaps we could look at another event around that time such as you running a training session for my club around that time? Your unique approach to the game would definitely make this an attractive prospect to my players.
Will be in touch.
Andy

Bit disappointed to have not heard anything from any of the GMs out there. In past years we have had a number of offers from people willing to play a simul against our club.
From what I can gather there are 37 English GMs, we have only played 2 of them so far, surely one of the remaining 35 fancies a game?!

If it were Russia you would have a lot more GM's to ask! Some of those 37 are no longer active, so the realistic choice is probably significantly less. Though I am sure you will get one!

Only a couple of the GMs frequent this forum regularly, and perhaps they haven't read this thread (especially since they have just been playing the 4NCL), so it may not be surprising that you haven't heard much from themAndrew Wainwright wrote:Bit disappointed to have not heard anything from any of the GMs out there. Maybe ask the 4NCL to post something on their website, or get Loz Cooper to provide you with some contact details

If you have anyone in mind I'm happy to forward your details to them. I don't think you can expect them all to trawl the internet looking for advertisments. A number of GMs, especially the active ones tend to steer clear of the forum due to adverse publicity in the past.Andrew Wainwright wrote:Bit disappointed to have not heard anything from any of the GMs out there. I guess I assumed that it would work as well this year as it did in the last two years with Keith and Stephen.
I would really appreciate you forwarding my inital posting to any GM who you think may be interested in this, I do not have a particular GM in mind. The bigger the name the better the event!

Extract from ECF website
"Advice on running a Simultaneous Display
Decide on the type of display – open to all-comers, solely for juniors or a particular club? This will affect the choice of venue; if you want to attract interested members of the public, somewhere like a shopping mall can work well. Note that many locations will often give a venue free for some good publicity. Check that the proposed date does not clash with a local chess event or major occasion such as the FA Cup final.
If you need a player, contact the English Chess Federation Office."

Can you send me a bit more information by private message or e-mail giving me an idea of the approximate budget you have in mind, preferred time of year etc and I'll try and think of someone appropriate.Andrew Wainwright wrote:I guess I assumed that it would work as well this year as it did in the last two years with Keith and Stephen.
