Completely off topic Michael, but whatever happened to the Cov league website. It doesn't seem to have been updated this year.

The webmaster either hasn't had time or can't be bothered, I don't know which. The university club site is scarcely any better (I left last summer and no-one's been regularly updating it since); the best (=only) way to find out what's going on in the Cov league is from Rugby's site, http://rugbychessclub.blogspot.com/

I have received e-mails from certain people at Warwick University, so they are alive. Clearly they're just not updating the website.

Thanks for this. Ken played excellently and deserved this win. It was in 2009 though, now we are in 2011.

If I can include rapid (http://www.londonchessclassic.com/2009/ ... idplay.htm) and blitz games (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQlfQCJPCKE) my unbeaten run is well over 100 games as I play regularly in 4 leagues and manage several tournaments. Maybe rapid / blitz is bending the rules, but I played GMs in all these events, so they were not straight forward.

It is worth noting that I play many of these games tired after work, and usually with no preparation.

So please do not question my results.

To claim a record like this, you need to have good records of the games you've played. I think that was the point Ian (Thompson) was making, in response to "although I have not kept good, up to date records". Anyway, it is a very impressive run of results, especially if you can put together a list of all the games.

Even if the records aren't 100% up to date, the only number which you can question (which I don't) is the volume of games, though I would think that Nick's figure is accurate, and maybe he would only out by a couple of games.

That is actually true, although it wasn't in Hastings, it was in a pub in Godalming, shortly after I had finished filming an endgame DVD for ginger gm!! What can I say I was completely outclassed! It should be out next month, and we have all put in a huge amount of work, Simon Williams, Aly Wilson, Gary O'Grady and several others. We are hoping to make it the best chess DVD on the market, and it covers the most important endgames for all levels of player, broken down by rating category (sorry for the plug, but please watch out for it).

Anyway I am certain that I will lose my next game after all of this!!

On the subject of unbeaten runs in FIDE games I once heard that Danny Gormally had gone 60odd games unbeaten between 2007 and 2008. It's difficult (and time consuming) to check back but I can see at least 45 games in my database from the 2007 British to the 2008 EU Championship and it's quite possible there are other events that aren't in my database. It looks like he played around 70 games at that time on the FIDE site so it seems worth a mention.

Thanks, I imagined they probably were although I haven't heard anything for a while. Given the complete lack of enthusiasm for the position of webmaster at last year's AGM, maybe I shouldn't be that surprised.

I have played eight games I believe in the Berkshire League fair enough standard is not huge but I have won 8/8 since the season. I am hoping to go unbeaten.

This year I hope is my year to hit 170.
