Bin Laden Dead

Post by William Metcalfe » Mon May 02, 2011 7:45 am

Last night the USA president announced that they had assasinated Osama Bin Laden and they had his body and dna testing confirmed that it was him.
I am not sure how much safer this will make the world i fear it may make things a lot more dangerous as he will now become a matar.
On a selfish note i wish my son was home he is out in the east on holiday and is due to fly home from islamabad in the next few weeks
I am speaking here for myself and not the NCCU which i am now president of

I am not sure I am 100% comfortable with the way the whole incident is sort of being celebrated to be honest...
Cheers

It doesn't change ground realities, it doesn't change geopolitics or the USA's geostrategic objectives in the region.

Good news i have heard from my son he was in the area where Asama Bin Laden was assasinated. He is now in India and i arranged a flight home for him on Thursday.
I agree i hate how jingoistic the USA are being this will come home and bite them in the butt. All they achived was take take out the figurehead Al Quaeda is a manyheaded monster that will now grow even bigger.
Sometimes we really need to be carefull what we wish for

I'm not even sure they got him. Interesting article in the Daily Mail today:

It seems to coincide with reverses Oceania is suffering on the Malabar Front.

In life there are possibilities and probabilities and yes it is possible NASA did not reach the moon, but at the heights of the cold war and with the eyes of the world on NASA, it is highly improbable that they did not actually reach the moon, the big mystery is though, why our species has not got a base on the moon harvesting that potentially incredibly valuable gas, helium 3.

In the same vein, it is possible American special forces did not execute Bin Laden, it is also possible that 911 was an inside job. At the end of the day, all we have to go on is the evidence, if President Obama did head up the team, then he has scored a major coup. The more I see him on the TV the more masterful he seems. All I know is after reading one of his books, he is a fine word smith. Maybe they would have done better to show us pictures of Bin Laden's corpse, but if Obama is a humane man, maybe he thought that would have inflamed Muslim sentiment so he might have said no, so as to cause less bloodshed in terms of revenge attacks, perhaps perhaps, we just have to hope.

Or maybe they blew his head to smithereens and there was nothing left to show.

Sure, but where is the difference with any other commentary on these matters. Perhaps it boils down
to which is the most entertaining?

Well that depends on whether you are a stocisist, or an epicurean.

Aha, but can we first confirm that "stocisist" is a typo (meant to be "stoicist",) when we can continue?
I've assumed apparently obvious things on this forum before and tripped myself up. :)

Dunno. I went to boarding school in Abbotabad and I know the town. It is an army stronghold. Obama's occupying a three-storey house would have been known to the military. The army (or interchangeably, the ISI) must have fed the Americans the intel on Osama's whereabouts (if indeed the Americans did not know all along).

"Dunno. I went to boarding school in Abbotabad and I know the town. It is an army stronghold. Obama's occupying a three-storey house would have been known to the military. "

"Obama"? Shome mishtake, shurely?

Now it emerges that Bin Laden was unarmed and wasn't using a human shield. The story keeps changing. Also, they got the DNA results very quickly - I appreciate technology has improved and they would drop everything to do it, once they flew the material to the lab, but it is still a quick result. Was it a full scan or a quick scan which is not always totally reliable, I believe?
