Wade Variations

Post by John Upham » Fri Dec 05, 2008 3:24 pm

I'd like to take this sad opportunity to celebrate Bob's one of many contributions to chess by detailing some of the many contributions he made to opening theory which became known as Wade Variations.

Here are some of them :

1. d4 d6 2. Sf3 Lg4 : The Wade (or Wijk aan Zee or Tartakower) Variation of the Old Indian Defence. Plaskett decided to call this The Sidestep Defence for some reason known to himself and (probably) nobody else.

2. 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Sc3 Sf6 4. Sf3 c6 5. e3 Sbd7 6. Ld3 dxc4 7. Lxc4 b5 8. Ld3 Lb7 : The Wade Variation of the Semi-Slav Defence

3. 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 4. c3 Db6 : The Wade Variation of the Advance Variation of the French Defence.

4. 1. e4 d5 2. ed: Dd5: 3. Sc3 Dd6 : Pytel-Wade Variation of the Scandinavian Defence.

If you know of more then please post here.

If I get a chance to play any of these this 4NCL weekend then I will...
