Just so we don't lose track, in what will be a long thread, this is round 2.LozCooper wrote:Live coverage of boards 1-4 is underway: http://www.britishchess2011.com/live_games.htm
And looking at board 1 (currently at move 19) how is Black going to get anything out of that? Is the Black bishop possibly slightly better?

Why not have a new thread for each round?

I can't see that Adams is any better - either he's having a long think or the machine has packed-up again - so I'd go for the draw with the Hawk remaining a threat to the big four? It's warming-up!

Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
(after move 21) Well, I've seen a similar position before (and Adams was Black and won, I think), but can't remember the details. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a draw, but I wouldn't be surprised either if Adams gets something out of it. The black bishop is more secure and White's activity is illusory. Or something.David Gilbert wrote:I can't see that Adams is any better - either he's having a long think or the machine has packed-up again - so I'd go for the draw with the Hawk remaining a threat to the big four? EDIT: Drawn three moves later. Looks like the illusion was in my head...

In the Short vs Ledger game, if 27. ... g5 then 28. Re5 looks spectacular.

Horrible blunder by Buckley on board 4. 17. Rc1 suggests that he saw 17. ... b5 but thought that after 18. Bxb5 the c-pawn would be pinned, forgetting that his queen would be en prise after that.
Short is a pawn up in a rook and pawn ending and you'd have to bet on him converting that.
