Jaunooby-Ledger looks a bit exciting. Ledger on move but facing two threats of mate in 1.

Nelson-Hebden also reaching a crucial stage.

And then? Is there a mate threat? And what about 51...Kg8? There is at least a draw by perpetual, if Nelson can't see more than that.

Ne4 is a nice move, shutting out the Queen. Hadn't seen that, Matthew.

Ne4 follows any king move, with threats of Qf5 and then Qf8/Nf6 as necessary.

Took the perp. then. Shame, been nice to have seen what happened in Matthew's line.

What does White do after something like 52...Rg7? Oh. 53.Qg5+ and 54.Nf6+. So go back and after 51.Ng5+ move the king to g8. No immediate discovered checks. And I see a draw has been agreed. Not that that means there wasn't something there, but I can't see a continuation for White after 51...Kg8.

I was looking at 50 Qxg6 as it seemed the king just walked up to g4 if checked by rook. Still excellent result by fellow 1986-88 Sheffield University chess team member!

Difficult to play like that, though, Andrew. I wondered too but with the great stone face sitting opposite you, well. Take a nice half and think that you are having a pretty good tournament!!

Chris 51 Ng5+ Kg8 Ne4 still look very dangerous Ne7+ is a threat and Qf5 looks very strong

Chris - you are probably too young to remember Space Invaders! They are coming to get you. Fortunately, Simon has some of his own. And as to what is going on, I haven't a clue.

Well at 6ft 5 I am also a great stone. In size if not chess ability anyway! :D

Indeed. +5.8 says Fritz after Ne4...
