Am I missing something? Isn't it possible for Howell to beat Short?LozCooper wrote:Jonathan Hawkins and Richard Bates have joined Mickey & Gawain on 4/5 with Nigel or possibly David to be leading on 4.5/5 and the other on 4.

I just played through that game, and didn't understand any of it. Looks very messy.Alexander Hardwick wrote:Am I missing something? Gordon - Hunt drawn

I was a bit surprised. I thought the simplification to Q+2R position was close to winning for white, but had calculated a line allowing back rank mateJohn Moore wrote:Gordon - Hunt drawn

Wonder if the top five boards will end up drawn?

Big upset, I see Martin Brown beat Danny Gormally on board 12.

The results/pairings page claims that the top board is a draw. So, yes, draws on all the top 5 boards.Christopher Kreuzer wrote:Wonder if the top five boards will end up drawn?

Terrible for Danny. His game yesterday was pretty awful.

Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
That appears to be an error. Someone probably put the Gordon-Hunt draw (board 3) in the wrong place. Short-Howell is still in progress, by all accounts.Alexander Hardwick wrote:The results/pairings page claims that the top board is a draw. He blundered a pawn so was probably wise to take the draw.John Moore wrote:Terrible for Danny. His game yesterday was pretty awful.

Yes I know, Lawrence. I still don't know Richard Britton offered the draw.

Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
Still no idea who is better in Short-Howell (currently 47...Rxd6). Anyone? I think the passed White b-pawn might be more dangerous than the passed Black d-pawn. Certainly the White knights are doing good things at the moment. Much better co-ordinated than they were a few moves ago. But there are a few tactics in the air.
