Well, I hadn't realised the c3 pawn was already lost. By pushing it, he at least opened up the d-file.

Not. (Not that I know which position you are referring to, but the saying itself is unhelpful, and unlearning it would probably gain you a few grading points.)

Not easy to work out what is going on. Adams moving the knight to b2 is interesting. It's not so much being on the rim as a long way away from defending its kingside.

EDIT:
1. Does Wells have a lot of pressure on Short's position (move 30)?
2. I think Wells just lost on time (or resigned, makes no difference, f7 was lost).
3. Pert-Adams was a repetition shortly afterwards. Wonder if Short winning influenced that?

Dunno (well, Wells just looked like he collapsed in time trouble, not sure why Adams agreed a draw), but I'm trying to work out who Adams and Short are likely to play. I think it depends on who else gets to 6.5/10, both Adams and Short have played everyone else higher than that.
