Short has said look I accept being worse (because my king is in the middle of the board). I will avoid all other weaknesses and leave you to make the running at the start, but in return the game will go on for a long long time and there will be no way to swap everything off for a draw. I'm the better player so I'll win in the end - great strategy (when it works!).

Time for a new coach. Near equality after 6 moves as black against a 2600 player, with enough tension in the position to be able to keep an eye on board 1 and play accordingly sounds like a good outcome to me. Especially when you are as strong as Nigel.

Adams has played 24 Rf3. Ba6 might be possible now because of c3 Rxc3

You could also ask why did he play a harmless opening virtually a tempo down (because of an unnecessary h2-h3) against Adams and more than get away with it?

Difference is, he knows when he's breaking the rules. We break the rules through ignorance and incompetence.

So why wasn't Rxc3 in response to c3 possible for the earlier 23...Ba6?

Looks very drawish now, if the queens and bishops come off.

Adams bailing out into a slightly worse ending?
I wonder if Yang-Fan will regret not playing Bb7 instead of Ba6, when amongst other things he has the better bishop
