Junior Chess Training

Post by Krishna Shiatis » Sun Sep 25, 2011 11:59 am

Hi all,

I am writing to let everyone know about the Junior Chess training events being held in the coming months.

Although being hosted by Kent Junior Chess Association, the training is open to all juniors so anyone can and is welcome to attend. Having spoken to team managers of county organisations over the years, many have said that their children do not have access to any formal training.

One of the secrets of the success of the Kent Juniors is the most excellent training programme organised and run by Chris Ward GM and his truly exceptional team of coaches.

I am very proud to announce that Kent (ie Chris) is currently in negotiations to secure John Emms GM to also join the team.

If Chris is successful, we will have two GMs at the helm of our training programme, spearheading progress and development, in addition to helping any and all juniors to improve and be successful with their chess.

The first of these coaching days is on Sunday October 9th at Amherst School, nr Sevenoaks. The details of this day and the other three coaching days may be found at

http://www.kjca.org/Event

Signing up is very easy and can be done on the website.

If you have any questions, to please use the ‘contact us’ section of the website.

The coaching days may be attended as ‘stand alone’ days for a fun day of coaching or they may be attended as a group in order to sit the Institute of Chess exams at the end of the course.

I have seen many children attend these events over a number of years and have noted how much the children have improved/enjoyed themselves and how much their confidence at the board has grown. It is a brilliant course, very logically laid out, to bring the children from their first tentative steps (Level 1), all the way to an advanced level (Level 5).

Kind regards to all,

Krishna

Hi all,

Just to confirm, further to my last posting, John Emms GM is now confirmed and is joining the Kent Junior Chess Training Team. We very much look forward to welcoming John on board and a very big thank you to Chris Ward GM for organising this.

As mentioned before, all juniors are welcome. These training days are lots of fun and really do help the juniors to play chess with confidence and success. We look forward to seeing all at Amherst.

If you are thinking of coming, especially if you are organising a group, please do let us know sooner rather than later to make sure that we have the correct number of coaches on hand, so that our class sizes remain small.

Kind regards,

Krishna

Just to let everyone know, the training really is great. The juniors who come out of the programme are much better players because of it. They also love the KJCA events as they meet new friends as well as learning a lot. I have been part of the team for 6 years now I think! They have made me feel very welcome and I always encourage juniors to go the events. Kent has been a strong junior county for many years and this is one of the reasons why.

The levels that Krishna mention are very good and are written by Chris himself as well as FM Desmond Tan who was a successful Kent junior. They already have all the material set out so it is very structured. I highly recommend their coaching days.
