chess-results.com is insisting Howell's game was drawn, but the official site disagrees. Pert has played 43.Bxg6, which looks interesting, so let's hope his opponent slips up there. Adams clearly can't win and has to play accurately for a draw, from the looks of it.

It now says -1000 for Pert's game, so presumably 3-1 (not that the game was remotely salvageable anyway). Pity. Will be interesting to see the selection for the last two rounds. Hopefully not ties against Russia or Ukraine!

In other developments, I'll actually be around when the results are published tonight; so hopefully I can do the pairings properly for England's scoregroup tonight.

The results system has the wrong score for the England match, so not easy to work it out (i.e. will they do the pairings based on the right or wrong score, and does it make any difference as we lost 3-1 rather than 2.5-1.5 as shown?)

remembering that we do have two teams England's women made probably their best result today in drawing with Greece, which involved wins against two WGMs on boards two and three.

Sarah Hegarty though lost again (and so has lost all her games except against Norway). Is it a student thing perhaps (David Howell being the other player who has come mid-term)? I think that she should have to be dropped for the next round now that the team is starting to gain some momentum and might still be able to achieve its pre-tournament goals, even though this was probably not the original game plan (since she missed the first few rounds already). The mens' team might be different; there isn't much momentum to maintain.

Well, the Ukraine tomorrow would be a bit of a worry. Who are you going to play in the next two rounds - back to Rogers J's conumdrum from some time back. Now, you have to play Adams, Short and Jones don't you. But does David H want to play again or do you play Nick in the last two rounds.

Incidentally Switzerland-Ukraine is an incredible result. I sort of assumed Switzerland might make 1 if Viktor was playing - he would make a half and somebody else would make a half. Even that would have been a surprise. But Viktor didn't and they made 3-1!!!

Absolutely, the women are seeded 22nd and currently in 22nd position, which is OK, let's hope they can have a good finish

If England lose 1/2 point, then they'll move down two spots behind Israel and Ukraine. I'll work that out now...
