According to this piece in the Grauniad a couple of weeks ago.

Is this claim in any way based on reality?

To the best of my knowledge Chris Flintoff played for the England U11 team.

Not sure. I can try to look up the grading info for you.

I presume it was one of these EPSCA matches. EPSCA have for many years run U11 international matches. The top players sometimes get trips abroad but there are also matches against Wales for those who don't make the main team. So every year 20-30 U11s get the chance to play for England.

I'm afraid I don't have the information you require. I only have national lists from about 1988 onwards, before that union grades were published separately so I only have the SCCU lists. Christopher Flintoff's birth was registered in Preston in the 3rd quarter of 1974 so you'd need the NCCU lists for the mid 1980s. I suppose Richard Haddrell might have them, alternatively you'll need to speak to the Lancashire/NCCU grading people.

I haven't got any NCCU lists. There are no Flintoffs in the (rather thin) 1986 BCF list.

Somewhat related, I heard Adam Gilchrist interviewed on Radio 5 this morning, he was talking about how competitive he is and mentioned playing chess against his dad when he was young.
