Indeed. Vicky Coren defined the term 'professional poker player' as 'an unemployed person who plays a lot of poker'. I think we may usefully borrow this definition.FM Jack Rudd wrote:I am a full-time chess professional*.

Does Vicky Coren describe a journalist as someone who has a famous father?

An average poker player playing 1 dollar stakes in cash games will make more than at least the average IM in the UK, and quite probably more than the average GM.

Seems to me this smacks of a touch of disrespect/contempt.'Scuse my ignorance, but who is Vicky Cohen? If someone does something all the time, and is able to support themself(+family if necessary) from the activity, then I would have thought that this is enough to qualify the activity in question as being the person's job, even if it is not a paricularly well paid job!John Saunders wrote:

I think she meant it partly as a joke at her own expense, as she plays a lot of poker herself (and has won a lot of money too allegedly).Keith Arkell wrote:Seems to me this smacks of a touch of disrespect/contempt.'Scuse my ignorance, but who is Vicky Cohen?
