Doh! At first I was suspicious it might be a joke but then found a likely looking candidate - someone who started off well but then hadn't been paired for the last few rounds.

Re: French Chess Federation investigates cheating players
It seems most people agree that juniors caught cheating should not be named or shamed but instead rehabilitated.
Would it not be better that juniors caught cheating should be given some reward, perhaps of a small monetary content, to compensate them for the trauma they will have undoubtedly suffered for being accused of cheating?

This sets up some very awkward incentivesTim Spanton wrote:It seems most people agree that juniors caught cheating should not be named or shamed but instead rehabilitated.

True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

Europe Echecs has a page with a variety of interviews on the matter conducted during the European Individual Chess Championship. See http://www.europe-echecs.com/actualites ... -2615.html.
They're mostly in French, of course. I'm hoping that in due course someone will produce a translation of the long interview with Jean-Claude Moingt.

Google Translate is surprisingly good, if you already know some French and can accommodate the occasional lapse with some improvised translation of your own.David Sedgwick wrote:Europe Echecs has a page with a variety of interviews on the matter conducted during the European Individual Chess Championship. That's fine for a written text. I use Google Translate regularly in exactly the way you suggest.Adam Raoof wrote:Google Translate is surprisingly good, if you already know some French and can accommodate the occasional lapse with some improvised translation of your own.David Sedgwick wrote:Europe Echecs has a page with a variety of interviews on the matter conducted during the European Individual Chess Championship. However, it doesn't help with a You Tube style video / audio piece.

Cheating scandal: Opinions, concerns and revelations
06.04.2011 – In a series of interviews, Robert Fontaine from Europe Echecs, culled the opinions of the players, to get a clearer idea on how players both French and foreign viewed the cheating scandal. A lengthy interview with Jean-Claude Moingt, the president of the French federation, revealed not only the next steps to be taken, but also that confessions were not only made to the players. An eye-opener.

Lawrence,
Are the ECF going to ask FIDE to overturn the result of Feller's game with David Howell from the Olympiad?

Re: French Chess Federation investigates cheating players
There have certainly been discussions regarding the match and that game in particular. I suspect we may be waiting for the outcome of the appeal and FIDE's subsequent action to see if anything further on our part is required. As both the ECF FIDE delegate and the International Director were involved in the match it's fair to say we have very strong feelings on the matter.Peter Sowray wrote:LozCooper wrote:http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=7130

Facebook has a funny sense of humour. It has just suggested that I add Sebastien Feller as a friend!

Re: French Chess Federation investigates cheating players
It seems that Sebastien Feller and his lawyers have counterattacked. They are accusing the French Chess federations of accounting irregularities.
This french site details all accusations from Feller on this page:
http://www.europe-echecs.com/actualites ... -2627.html
(maybe a Google translate can do the job)
It appears that most of Feller's accusations are false, so it is likely to be a diversion move, which in my opinion tends to show that the cheating accusations are right. Moreover, it is not very correct from him to use such ways of defense.

Re: French Chess Federation investigates cheating players
The debate, if there is one, seems to involve the finer points of the French approach to revenue and expense recognition when applied to a sports body with both membership and sponsorship income.Simon Louchart wrote: (maybe a Google translate can do the job)
Perhaps if he is banned, Feller is looking forward to a fresh career as a chartered accountant.
