Don't know about dull, Paul, I found it fascinating, although I was fairly sure it was always going to be a draw. Just interested to see the moves and work out what is going on. Draws? I don't really care, tbh, it isn't as if they weren't trying at all. Minority opinion, no doubt, but hey.

But what about the venue? People are always moaning here about how hard it is to venues, the cost, etc. And with justification, no doubt. But the Tretjakov! Fantastic. Chess still means something in Russia.

Maybe he meant that many know the moves or have played a casual game.
At the sharp end things used to be smaller than now - in the year of Fischer-Spasski (1972) there were 84 GMs, 178 IMs and about 600 ELO-rated players according to one source.
